New 2024 Ontario Building Code

On April 10th, 2024, the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) issued a notice regarding the rollout of the new Ontario Building Code.

The Township of North Dundas Building Services will provide ongoing updates regarding the particular changes that residents can expect to see coming into effect in 2025. This will take the form of periodic e-bulletins on the Township website and Open Houses. Dates will be released shortly, but we anticipate having the first Open House in June.

The changes to the new Code are intended to make building easier by reducing regulatory hurdles for the construction industry and improving efficiency to the building process.

Key Highlights

Building Services has yet to receive the updated Code but some key highlights for the upcoming changes include:

  • Harmonization with the National Building Code of Canada including Ontario specific amendments
  • Updates to the Farm Code
  • Updates to roof-mounted solar arrays
  • Provisions for future Radon protection
  • Provisions for improved accessibility for large buildings
Transition Timelines
