Finance

The Finance Department of the Township of North Dundas prepares and monitors the municipality’s annual operating and capital budgets. Finance ensures that adequate internal controls are in place to safeguard corporate assets and is responsible for the payment of bills and the collection of accounts receivable.

The Township is responsible for the collection of property taxes for our own municipal purposes, for the United Counties of SDG (for county purposes), and for education taxes as legislated by the Province of Ontario. Education taxes are distributed to the local school boards.

Property taxes are based on the tax rate as set by each level of government and the property’s current value assessment as provided by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).

In addition to processing tax bills, Finance processes applications for adjustment of assessments under Section 357 and 358 of the Municipal Act, minutes of settlement resulting from Requests for Reconsideration filed with MPAC, and reviews and forwards rebates for vacancies in commercial and industrial buildings to MPAC for further processing.

The finance department also invoices and collects water bills for the municipal water and sewer systems and is responsible for the township’s human resources, including benefits for township employees.
