What is AHSIP (Accelerated High-Speed Internet Program)
The Accelerated High-Speed Internet Program (AHSIP) is Ontario’s flagship initiative to deliver reliable high-speed internet to unserved and underserved households, farms, and businesses across the province—targeting completion by the end of 2025. With nearly $4 billion in investment, the province has engaged a dozen ISPs via competitive reverse auctions, and signed contracts with eight providers—including Bell, Rogers, Xplornet, Cogeco, and Starlink—to connect over 266,000 premises.
Key highlights:
- Fiber-optic and fixed wireless deployments led by top ISPs infrastructureontario.ca.
- A satellite route (ONSAT), with Starlink awarded to serve about 15,000 homes and businesses infrastructureontario.ca.
- Emphasis on removing construction barriers like permitting and pole attachments, with support for Indigenous engagement aship-landing-bow2.hub.arcgis.com | infrastructureontario.ca.
- The Township of North Dundas has approximately 80% of the construction conducted by Xplornet, with the remaining 20% conducted by Bell Canada.
