SNC issues Water Safety Statement

February 17, 2022

The South Nation Conservation (SNC) Authority has issued a Water Safety Statement.
Residents are advised to exercise extreme caution when on ice-covered surfaces and near rivers and waterbodies as the forecasted weather may rapidly increase river flows, deteriorate ice conditions, and cause slippery conditions.
Parents are encouraged to explain these dangers to their children.
The Water Safety Statement is in effect until Monday, February 21, 2022 at 5pm.

Weather Forecast:
Environment Canada is forecasting milder temperatures and rainfall amounts up to 15 mm by late ; afternoon, followed by approximately 20 to 30 cm of snow by Saturday.

Environmental Conditions:
Water runoff and flows will increase in the coming days due to expected precipitation and melting snow.

Risks:
Warmer temperatures and rainfall are likely to produce higher water levels and possible nuisance flooding in low-lying areas across the jurisdiction. Unstable ice conditions may also result from warmer temperatures and higher flows.

SNC monitors the water levels and weather forecasts as part of the Flood Forecasting and Warning Program. Updates are provided as conditions change.
