The four fire departments are located in the villages of Winchester,
Chesterville,
Morewood and South Mountain, with a substation at Hallville. Each department has
between 19 and 23 firefighters who meet in their station for training, practice and
discussion at least twice per month. Each departments has a chief, deputy chief,
three captains, a fire prevention and education officer, training officers, as well as
regular fire fighters. The three major objectives, as legislated by the Ontario
Government, are: suppression, training, fire prevention, and education.
The four chiefs and deputy chiefs are all part of the Fire Chief's Steering
Committee, which meets monthly on a rotating basis in each fire hall, usually the
second Wednesday of each month. This committee is responsible for decisions
affecting fire safety for all residents of North Dundas Township. Policy decisions
reached at these meetings are recommended to Council for confirmation.
Decisions affecting the department are shared with the four departments at their
regular monthly meetings.
Each department has a training section that is responsible for training at each
station. The training officers from each division meet monthly to plan and organize
the training sessions that will be conducted with all fire fighters at their
departments. As well, fire fighters receive training on a regular basis in "out of
township" training facilities. This is a section of the program that may go
unnoticed by the community except when there is an emergency. Training officers
also meet every second month with other department training officers on a
rotating basis around the United Counties on a bi-monthly basis to share
information and to plan programs.
Your volunteer fire department is made up of dedicated, involved, community
minded persons who train, develop and present fire prevention and education
programs, and respond to emergencies. Your support is important, and we thank
you for it.
