Attendance:

Heather Erwin, Ken Arsenault, Louise Arsenault, Connie Guich, Karin, Owen Shortt, Gerry Boyce, Bill Pakeman, Nick Coleman, Sandra Pym, Sheri Francis, Danielle Byers, Sandy Johnston, Ted Ceelen, Lorna Boyce, Robin R. Morris, Steven Caza, Ed Duncan, John Van Bruinessen, Wendy Lee 

  1. Meeting commenced 7:30 pm, by Gerry Boyce with Introduction of Attendees
     
  2. Presentation on Group Insurance by Nick Coleman and Bill Pakeman
     
    1. Represent a group association of over 20, 000 members across Canada
    2. Caters to Small Business Employee Insurance in Rural Areas
    3. 5 % of all premiums from members of Chamber & their employees are returned to that local Chamber of Commerce at end of year (April)
    4. As a small business, you can have only the owners on your individualized policy, or include ALL employees who work a 24 hr + workweek.
    5. Tiered policies are accepted.
    6. Policies can include LTD, STD, Office expense overhead, Med., Dental, etc.
    7. Distributor is Johnson Group Ins. (Winnipeg), Insurer is Imperial Life/Dejardins-Casse Populaire
    8. Renewal of Insurance policies can be subject to 6-9% increases (versus a typical 15%) as a reflection of the 20, 000 members, inflation, etc
    9. Information packages will be sent out by Nick to non-present members
    10. Next steps: endorsement of Chamber of Commerce of representation by Nick & Bill, Letter signed by Jerry
    11. Robin motioned to endorse Proposal by Chamber of Commerce
    12. Connie seconded motion.
    13. All Accepted, none opposed
       
  1. Owen to provide list of Chamber Members to Nick for the purpose of sending out kits
    .
  2. Owen will review Letter of Endorsement with Jerry and proceed with endorsement.
     
  3. Additions to Agenda: None
     
  4. Website Update:
    1. All current, renewing and old members are currently listed on the website.
    2. Double check the site and review your information listed
    3. Deadlines for renewal will need to be abided by. Deadline dates to be discussed and reinforced
    4. Minutes are posted on the website, Members are encouraged to review them
    5. Chamber Agenda is posted on the website. Bring a copy with you to the meetings
    6. Email communication is up and running smoothly.
       
  1. Membership:
    1. At present, there are 58 current and paid members
    2. At present, there are 18 current and unpaid members
    3. Ward representatives are to contact non-paying members and remind them of balance outstanding.
       
  2. Signage
    1. There are no current By-Laws existing for the Township of North Dundas with regards to Business Signage on Private Property
    2. Chamber would like to advertise to “Shop Locally”
    3. Motion to brainstorm: How to advertise, What to Advertise, Where and When to promote Retail and Home-Based Business as a whole for our Township
       
  1. Chamber of Commerce Membership by Non-residents and Non-Businesses of North Dundas
    1. Discussion of pros & cons
    2. General acceptance of promoting North Dundas Business and Members of Chamber
    3. Need to discuss further in next meeting
       
  1. Identification for need to establish Budget for 2003
    1. Various Wards are currently identifying needs in their area
    2. % of Membership fees stay within the specific wards
    3. Proposal for use of funds to be made by Wards and brought to Chamber for approval
       
  1. Other Business: Meetings
    1. Meetings will continue to be held on the 3rd Wednesday of the month
    2. Locations will alternate and be posted on the web site
    3. Times (morning or evening) will also be posted
