Chamber of Commerce Minutes Title
Wednesday, December 15, 2004
7:30 pm
Louis’ Restaurant, Chesterville

CALL TO ORDER: Meeting was called to order by Gerry Boyce at 7:35 a.m.

INTRODUCTIONS: Owen Shortt, Connie Gruich, Gerry Boyce, Dennis Taylor (Cannamore Orchards), Sandie Puddephatt, Barrie Williams (Storm Internet), Debbie Decoomen, Fred Wiseman, Martin Schoones, Robin Morris, Chris Zabel, John VanBruinessan, Birket Foster

ADDITIONS TO AGENDA: 1) support for recruiting doctors to area

TREASURER’S REPORT: There are no new members.  The only expenses in the past month were wing night and advertising.

OLD BUSINESS: No minutes have been submitted from last two meetings.

NEW BUSINESS:

1)   Supporting Doctors: Chesterville Town Hall is being converted into a fairly modern Doctor’s office in hopes that this will attract new doctors to area. Dr. Bart Steele is chairing this project. Owen asked if there was funding from Council to help with this and Martin Schoones said Council is working with Dr. Steele. Chesterville businesses have been approached for financial support to offset some costs. Should Chamber support this project? Yes, as it is a North Dundas problem. It was suggested that there be a speaker at next meeting to give more information.

2)   B.R.&.E.: Martin gave a brief outline for benefit of new attendees. He reported that United Counties is considering the project but if not Council will go ahead. The Chamber has committed $2000 to the cost. It would make more sense for United Counties as they could have a full time person to look after this although Martin would like to keep it at local level. Although nothing has been applied for yet, Martin said that Council would include the $10,000 cost in new budget.

REGISTRATION: Motion made by Robin, seconded by Owen that everything remains the same until the new executive takes over in March; all in favor, carried. Owen will send out membership forms as well as notice of Wine and Cheese, which will be held on January 20, 2005. Sandie P. will book Winchester Lions Hall and Connie will organize the evening.

NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 7:30 pm. at Winchester Old Town Hall

ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
